Watermelon Nail Art

Hey guys,

So I tried to do some watermelon nail art the other night, I thought it was going to be much easier to do than it was though.  I first used tape to do the triangle shape and then outlined the entire thing in black but I did not like the finished look.  I removed it and tried out something different on my thumb with less black and added white, I liked it much better so I started on my other nails.  I did not use tape this time, but just used a striping brush to paint out the triangle shape then filled the triangle in.  I added the tips of green, then the stripe of white.  I then outlined the watermelon shape with the black and added some seeds.  It was time consuming but I thought they turned out pretty cute.  Hope you enjoy!

80's Inspired Nail Art

So some of my favorite bloggers have been doing some awesome nail art and I have become so inspired by them!  This mani is loosely inspired by Chalkboard Nails Hipster Mix and Match post, I really loved the color combination she chose and the little overlapped 3-D looking dots she did were so cool looking I had to give them a try.  Also I hate how my pinky turned out, I really should have redone it but I was too lazy to do that.

Colors used: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Coral Reef, Color Club Pucci-Licious, Essie In the Cab-ana, and a white striper polish

Tutorial: Madeline Poole Inspired Flowers

Hey guys,

So I posted my Madeline Poole Flowers mani about a week ago and I thought I would do a tutorial on them for you all.  It is a great nail art design for beginners and they look so cute!   The only supplies you will need are a few polishes a dotting tool, and a nail art brush.


Colors used:  Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Without a Stitch, Essie In the Cab-ana, First Timer and Mojito Madness, China Glaze White On White and Sally Girl Get Out!

Step One:  Paint your nails a base color, I would suggest a white, off-white or a nude.  Pick two colors for your flowers, a white for the middle of the flower and a green for the leaves

Step Two:  Give your base color 30 minutes to dry or apply a quick dry topcoat and wait about 5 minutes. Pick one of your flower colors place a drop on a piece of paper and grab your dotting tool.  Make little half circles in a two to four spots around your nail, make sure you space them well so that you can fit the other side of your flower on in a minute.

Step Three: Grab your other flower color and do a half circle on the other side of the half circles you just did to make a little flower shape.  These do not have to be perfect looking.

Step Four:  Grab your white and with your dotting tool place a small dot in the center of your flowers

Step Five:  Get your green polish and your nail art brush and paint small leaves around your flowers, I did two leaves for each flower.  These again don't have to be perfect, I am not great at drawing leaves as you can see.

Step Six: Wait about 5 minutes and apply a quick dry topcoat, I would recommend Seche Vite because it will not smear your design

Oh and I did an accent nail as well, this is a coat of In the Cab-ana and Sally Girl Get Out! (fyi in love with this glitter!)

Tutorial: Multi-Colored Water Spotted Nails

So I did a multi-color water spotted mani a week or two ago and when I posted it on Beautylish someone suggested that I do a tutorial for it.  I thought this was a pretty good idea because I haven't seen any out there for using more than one color in a water spotted mani.  If you have never done a water spotted mani or would like to see a video on how it is done then please visit CutePolish on YouTube.  I hope you all find this helpful!


Colors used: Orly Pure Porcelain, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Pacific Blue and Twisted Pink, and Wet N Wild On A Trip

Step One:  Paint your nails a base color, I would suggest a white or off-white for this.  Also apply a little Vaseline or some tape around your fingers to help aid in clean up later.

Step Two: Get a cup a fill it to the top with room temperature water, make sure it is a cup you are not going to be drinking out of again. Oh and do not use a Styrofoam cup the nail polish will melt it! Pick three  colors for your water spots.  Now take one of the colors drip a dot of polish onto the surface of the water.  Spray it with some kind of alcohol based spray about 4-5 inches away (you can use body spray, anti-bacterial spray, hairspray).  I usually spray between 1-3 times, it depends on how well the polish start to separate.

Step Three: Repeat step two with your other two colors.  

Step Four:  Remove the tape or wipe the Vaseline and nail polish off your skin and clean up any other polish with a q-tip or brush and some acetone.  Top coat your look and you should be done!

A couple of tips if you have never done water spotted nails before.

1.It can be a bit tricky to do at first, I find that I like to only work with one drop of polish, especially when doing more than one color for the spots.  I also find that when I do more than one drop it seems to not want to separate once I spray the body spray. 

2. And on the topic of body spray I would highly suggest you do not use aerosol hairspray, I have tried it once and the spray was too powerful it pretty much blew the nail polish out of my cup of water.  

3. It is important that the water you use is room temp, if it is too cold the polish dries very quickly and you will have issues with getting it to spot.

Madeline Poole/Pshiiit Inspired Flowers

So I was browsing Pshiiit's blog the other day and I saw her post about Madeline Poole's nail art book and one of the looks she had done from it.  I instantly knew I wanted to recreate this look, it was just so cute and looked really simple to do.  I didn't have the exact colors that she used but I tried to go with similar ones because I really thought it was a pretty combo.  Also I may do a tutorial on these flowers because they are very simple and look really cute!


Colors used: OPI My Vampire Is Buff, L'Oreal Sparklicious, my neon pink and orange franken, China Glaze White on White and Orly Glowstick

Multi-Colored Water Spotted

Hey guys,

So when I tried the water spotted nails the other day I thought that it might be cool to see what it would look like if I did a few different colors.  This one was definitely trial and error, I had a hard time getting the color to spot at first and I was trying to use hairspray but it was not working well.  I figured out that if I did just one drop of the nail color onto the water and then sprayed with body spray I got the polish to separate better.  I did one color at a time and I thought it looked pretty cool once I was done with it.

Nautical Themed Nails!

Hey guys,

I have some super cute nautical nails today, I can't believe I haven't done really done these before!  This look would work well for Fourth of July as well but I think they are cute as a summertime mani period.  For my index and pinky finger I used a small dotting tool to create my polka dots, for the middle and ring I started with a white base and then used my striping tape to get the blue lines, then added a couple of little red hearts to the striped nails.  Hope you all enjoy!

Neon Tribal

Hey guys,

I feel like I haven't posted in forever!  I was without internet for like five days because the line outside my house got cut and I had to wait for the company to come out and repair it.  But it is finally fixed and I have a fun tribal mani for you all today.  I haven't done tribal nails in forever, mainly because they really frustrate me, but I thought I would try it out since it is a fun design for the summer time I think.  Also I don't know if I should do a tutorial on these or not, there are so many out there.  But I basically started with a off-white base then I painted stripes of my neon colors, all three colors once on each nail, and then went in with my black acrylic paint and did the tribal design.  I love how these turned out and I found them easier this time around to do and I actually thought my right hand looked better than my left which is rare so I will post some pics of my never-before-seen right hand! 


Colors used: base, Sally Hansen Lavender Cloud (this is probably discontinued), neon stripes, Nina Ultra Pro Pearly Brights, China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise, and Orly Glowstick.

Black, White, and Neon All Over

Hey guys,

I am in LOVE with this mani.  Nice and bright and summery, I needed something to cheer me up since Oklahoma has been having the worst weather ever lately. I used a bunch of neon colors for this and I did 2 coats of a white base before I applied the neons so that they would really pop.  I think the bright colors look really nice with the black and white glitter too.  I hope you enjoy!

Faded French

Hey guys,

I have a nice twist on a french manicure today.  I have seen some photos of faded french mani's on Pinterest and I have meant to do one for a while now.  Then the other day Nailed It posted a tutorial and it reminded me that I really wanted to try this one out!  The technique for this is the same as any gradient that I do (if you need to check out my tutorial it is here ) although I did way to much white at the tips, so be aware of that when you are doing this.

Abstract Flowers

Hey guys,

I have a fun and super easy nail art look today.  I was loosely inspired by some Revlon nail strips I saw the other day at the store.  I started with an off white base color, for the flowers I took the different colors one at a time and mixed acetone with them and painted roundish splotches on my nails.  I plan on doing a tutorial on this one soon, but it really is so easy and mistake-proof!

Blue Mix N' Match

Hey guys,

I have no idea what to call this one and I know I already have a few mix and match mani's on here but I am drawing a blank, haha.  I was just playing around with my acrylic paint again and figured I would show you guys how this one turned out.  I really don't like the leopard print it just doesn't look right.  Anyways hope you enjoy!

Wait Teal You See!

Hey guys,

The other day I picked up one of the new Ombre kits from China Glaze, I got Wait Teal You See.  This set comes with White On White, Aquadelic, For Audrey and Turned Up Turquoise.  I actually only bought this set to get Aquadelic, but I figured I would give this Ombre/Gradient a try.  If you frequent my blog then you will know that I love a good gradient mani.  The set comes with four nail polishes and ten sponges to do the gradient with.  I went ahead and used the sponge that comes with the kit, however I do not recommend them.  I would much rather use my cheapie makeup sponges I get from Dollar Tree.  With that being said I still like the outcome it just much harder for me to work with the sponge than my usual one.  On a sidenote I could not get Turned Up Turquoise to show up for me in the pics not matter what lighting I used so the pics are not very accurate.  So sorry about that!

I used the entire China Glaze Ombre set Wait Teal You See! and topped the mani off with inm Northern Lights Holographic Topcoat

New Hard Candy Glitters

Hey guys,

On a recent trip to my WalMart I found a nice untouched display of the new Hard Candy polishes!  Once I saw them in person I ended up only getting two of them.  I did like some of the others but I only got the ones I had really wanted originally.  I got Black Tie Optional and Party Central.  I was really excited for these two because the remind me of indie glitters and I love the manistream companies are really paying attention to what is popular right now. 

 

 

 

 

Black Tie Optional, this one is similar to Lynnderella Connect the Dots or Lush Lacquer Salt N Peppa minus the shimmery base.  It applied really nicely and I didn't have to fish for some of the larger glitters.  This is Black Tie Optional over China Glaze Keep Calm, Paint On

 

 

 

 

Party Central, this glitter has mix of copper, blue, purple and white glitter.  I love this one because of the white glitter, it is nice surprise to add into the mix.  I did have to fish some of the larger white glitters out of the bottle for this one it also was a little bit harder to apply so I had to use dabbing motions to get this one on the nail evenly. Across the Universe

Hey guys,

I saw this Across the Universe tutorial by Totally Cool Nails on Youtube and I pretty much went and instantly re-created it.  Across the Universe is one of my favorite movies and I love what she came up with for this inspired mani.  In hindsight I wish I had done my dots way smaller or actually skipped that step but I still think they turned out pretty cool.

I used Color Club Naughty-Cal Navy, Orly Royal Navy, Orly Dayglow, inm Northern Lights Holographic Topcoat, and red and green acrylic paint.

 

 

 

 

Dreamcatcher

Hey guys,

So I have seen quite a few dreamcatcher mani's on Pinterest and a few tutorials on Youtube and have been meaning to try them for a while now.  I picked up some new acrylic paints today so I figured now was a good time to give it a go.  This not a difficult as I thought it was going to be, you do have to go slow and try to steady your hand as much as possible but it is pretty simple to do.  I also painted a feather on my thumb as an accent to the dreamcatcher on my ring finger.  I have a tutorial for the feather here if you would like to know how I did that one.  For the dreamcatcher I will probably do a tutorial on it because that is a post all in its self. 

I used China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-Le, and black, white and yellow acrylic paint.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sweets Way

Hey guys,

I finally bought a couple of the Nails Inc. Sprinkles polishes.  I have wanted these for a long time and just never got around to going to Sephora to get them until recently.  I got Sweets Way and Pudding  Lane, the only two I really, really wanted.  I did a funky french with Sweets Way using an LA Colors Art Deco striper polish in Baby Pink.  I had a hard time getting good photos of this one so sorry for that!

 

 

 

 

Stars and Stripes

I am trying to do more nail art lately, but I have been feeling really uninspired.  It may be time for some new nail art supplies!  This mani turned out different than what I had pictured in my head but it is still pretty cute.  I used China Glaze Bahamian Escape, white acrylic paint, inm Northern Lights topcoat, and some nail art confetti/glitter that I got at Dollar Tree.

Hey guys,

I have another Valentine day nail look today.  I saw this on The Nailasaurus and knew I had to try this out.  Mine aren't exactly the same as hers but I tried!  I originally tried to do the heart like she did it but mine turned out awful so I decided to try something different.  I am not sure how much I like how the middle finger turned out I wish I had just done the heartbeat line things and not gone for the little heart.  I used Orly Pure Porcelain and red acrylic paint with a toothpick to draw the design on my nails.

 

 

 

 

Valentine Skittles

Hey guys,

I decided to add a little nail art to the Design Seed Skittles I posted.  I used white acrylic paint with a toothpick to make the hearts and the little dots.  It's really simple but I thought it turned out pretty cute.
